It’s a fizzy week, bestowing some disturbing headlines. You see that a power couple is transferred to these beautiful places; the news states that this bureaucrat couple is transferred to Ladakh and Arunachal, respectively, as a “punishing posting” because they misused their power to take an evening stroll with their dog at a national stadium by shooing away the athletes. Misusing power is unacceptable, but the point is about the radical and flashy headline; irresponsible acts lead to transfer to certain places as a punishment — forming a low image of the identity of the states.

Indian polity is very delicate, where media plays an important role in forming opinions about the system. People feed on the so-called independent media for their daily dose of gossip, which slowly churns their opinion and binds them to a narrow mindset of filtered news.

The people of Arunachal and Ladakh are proud tribal natives; carrying their traditions and cultural ethos as a souvenir of their beautiful lands. These places are a soothing sight to chaotic minds when tourists travel there to spend their vacation. However, the news projecting it as a black hole for bureaucrats flashes a negative opinion in people’s minds, reflecting the harsh truth about our societal mindset; and we complain about “people being racist” these steamy and thoughtless headlines separate people and cultural unification. It sets the foundation for treating people from different ethnicity and geographical region differently, and we wonder why there is no sense of appreciation and acceptance in the eyes of any natives.

Blaming doesn’t bring change, but as a pillar of truth, it’s the role of the media to check what they are providing to the audience. A responsible media is the nation’s voice, and criticizing is an essential aspect; however, educating and socially uniting the country also falls on their shoulder, so they should respect the cultural and ethnic elements of tribal regions before jumping on to a catchy headline!
